Brewer’s Best extract recipe kits are a great entry for beginners. Frankly, I still enjoy brewing with them after 6 years of extract brewing. They are inexpensive, and the recipe kits come with yeast, priming sugar, and bottle caps.
Their Continental Pilsner recipe is an homage to the Czech Pilsner, but with a lot less hops. For a 5-gallon batch, I have seen true Czech Pilsner recipes utilize 6 ounces of Czech Saaz hops. The recipe we got included 3-packs of 1 oz Czech Saaz pellet hops.
It has a slight bitter hoppiness. Put it this way: my neighbor, who does not like IPAs or anything too bitter, finds this a refreshing brew. If you want a hint of a Czech Pilsner that has been ‘Americanized’ to reduce bitterness, this is a recipe to try.
