PROS:
- Easy-to-make recipes for beginners
- One of the oldest and most recognized names for home brewing
- Their signature little brown 2-gallon keg is compact and easy for anyone with limited space
CONS:
- The yeast and ‘hop extracts’ leave a lot to be desired for more complex beers
- You will need to buy a new set of equipment somewhere else if/when you want to upgrade to 5-gallon batches
- Their little brown keg has received negative comments that the spigot is too close to the bottom, where the settled yeast (trub) can easily be dispensed, creating very cloudy beers with some off-flavors

Mr Beer was around during my first foray into homebrewing. They started online in 1996. Even before then, I could buy Mr Beer recipe kits, with the can of Coopers liquid malt extract, from my local homebrew supply store. That brings back memories, not all of them pleasant! Sometimes nostalgia should remain in the past.
