Patersbier Recipe Review

Patersbier Recipe Review

A patersbier (Dutch for “father’s beer”), also known as a Trappist Single or enkel, is a light, easy-drinking Belgian ale traditionally brewed by Trappist monks for their own daily consumption.

This is a simple beer, made with pilsner malt, hops, and a specialty yeast developed by monks in Western Belgium. We recommend fermenting at the lower end of the recommended temperature. The result will accentuate the pear flavor in the final beer.

It is one of the easiest extract recipes to brew, but the complexity from the simple ingredients is awesome.

The Patersbier recipe we made came from a kit available at Northern Brewer. We have since tweaked a few things and will buy our own separate ingredients.  Shop around our top 10 online stores, and you will pay less than the kit cost.

This is a classic lawnmower beer. It is light-bodied, crisp, and at around 4.5% ABV, it is sessionable.
